The Physiotherapist will assess and treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems such as soft tissue injuries due to work-related injuries (i.e. repetitive strain, tendonitis, spinal strains / sprains due to lifting, etc.), post motor vehicle accidents (MVA) with sprains / strains, sports injuries, and arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis.

Treatment modalities will include interferential current, ultrasound, acupuncture, moist heat and ice which are effective in decreasing pain, inflammation and promoting healing of the injured tissues. Treatment will also include manual techniques such as joint mobilization and soft tissue mobilization (i.e. massage).

Patients will be instructed on exercises to increase range of motion, using active / active-assisted range of motion and stretching exercises; strengthening and conditioning exercises using theraband tubing, free weights, treadmill walking and/or stationary biking, etc. Instruction on a home exercise regime and education will be incorporated into the treatment plan.

The physiotherapist’s responsibility will be to promote a safe and effective treatment plan and environment in an attempt to return the patient to pre-injury function if possible and/or help the patient manage their condition.
